Who this course is for
The PADI Open Water Diver course is the world's most popular way to become a certified diver, and you need zero experience to start. If you can swim 200 meters at your own pace, float for 10 minutes, and answer a standard medical questionnaire honestly, you are ready. The minimum age is 10, so families often certify together. If you tried a Discover Scuba Diving day and loved it, this is the natural next step, and some of that experience may even count toward the course.
Why take it in Hurghada
Honestly, there are few better classrooms on the planet. The Red Sea gives you 22 to 29 degree water all year, visibility that regularly hits 20 meters or more, and calm, shallow reefs like Gota Abu Ramada where your first dives happen over bright coral instead of a cold, murky quarry. Learning is simply easier when you are warm, relaxed and can actually see your instructor. We keep groups small and personal, so nervous students get the time they need. Nobody gets rushed through a skill to keep a schedule.
What you learn
The theory covers everything a new diver actually needs: how pressure affects your body and your air, how your equipment works, how to plan a dive, how to communicate underwater, and how to look after your buddy. Most students complete it through PADI eLearning at their own pace, often before the holiday even starts, which means more time in the water and less time in a classroom. If you prefer sessions with an instructor, we arrange that too.
Practical training
Training runs over 3 to 4 relaxed days. You start in confined, pool-like conditions where you master the core skills: clearing your mask, recovering your regulator, controlling your buoyancy, and handling small problems calmly. Then come the four open water training dives, spread over two days on real Red Sea reefs. Dive by dive you go a little deeper and take on more responsibility, until you are planning and executing the dive with your buddy while your instructor supervises. The maximum training depth is 18 meters, and divers aged 10 to 11 stay within 12 meters.
Your certification
You finish as a PADI Open Water Diver, certified to dive to 18 meters with a buddy anywhere in the world, for life. There is no renewal exam and the certification is recognized by dive centers everywhere. Most of our graduates celebrate with a fun diving day at Giftun or Dolphin House the day after the course, which we happily arrange. When you are ready to go further, the Advanced Open Water course extends your depth limit to 30 meters and opens up Hurghada's famous wrecks.
Prefer one-on-one? Take this course private-style
Every course we offer can be taught privately, with an instructor focused only on you or your buddy team. Your schedule, your pace, extra time on any skill that needs it. It is the most relaxed way to learn, especially for nervous students, families and photographers.
