Who this course is for
Enriched Air Nitrox is the most popular specialty in diving, and for a simple reason: it gives you more time underwater. It is for any certified diver who wants longer no-decompression limits, especially on repetitive dives in the 15 to 30 meter range, which is exactly what a Red Sea diving holiday looks like. You need a PADI Open Water Diver certification (or equivalent) and to be at least 12 years old. Many divers also report feeling less tired after Nitrox dives. That is anecdotal rather than proven, but the extended bottom time is pure physics.
Why take it in Hurghada
Because this is where Nitrox actually pays off. A typical Hurghada day is two boat dives on reefs sitting at 18 to 25 meters, day after day. On air, your no-decompression limit is often what ends the dive. On enriched air with less nitrogen in the mix, you get meaningfully more minutes at exactly those depths, and more margin on the second dive of the day. If you are doing a multi-day diving package or a wreck-heavy week at Abu Nuhas depths, the certification pays for itself in bottom time. Nitrox fills are readily available on our partner boats.
What you learn
The theory is compact and practical, done through PADI eLearning at your own pace. You learn what enriched air actually is, why less nitrogen means longer no-decompression limits, and the one serious trade-off: oxygen exposure. Higher oxygen content means a shallower maximum operating depth, and you learn exactly how to calculate and respect it for the standard mixes of 32 and 36 percent. You also learn to plan enriched air dives with your dive computer and understand oxygen exposure management.
Practical training
This is one of the few PADI specialties with no required training dives, which is why you can complete it in half a day to a day around your normal diving. The hands-on session is the part that matters for the rest of your diving life: you personally analyze the oxygen content of your tank, verify the maximum operating depth, log the fill correctly, and set your dive computer for the mix. Analyze, label, set, dive: it becomes routine. If you like, we add two optional dives on Nitrox so you experience the difference on a real reef day, and those dives can count toward your logbook like any others.
Your certification
You finish as a PADI Enriched Air Diver, qualified to dive with enriched air blends up to 40 percent oxygen wherever Nitrox is available, worldwide and for life. From your very next Hurghada boat day, you can order Nitrox fills and enjoy the longer bottom times. It also pairs beautifully with the Deep Diver and Wreck Diver specialties, where no-decompression time is the resource you never have enough of.
