Who this course is for
Some of the best moments in diving live below 18 meters: the hull of a wreck resting on the sand, a wall dropping into deep blue, big pelagics cruising past a pinnacle. The Deep Diver specialty is for certified divers who want to visit that world with proper training instead of just drifting deeper and hoping. You need to be a PADI Adventure Diver or higher (the deep adventure dive from your Advanced course counts toward this specialty) and at least 15 years old. It suits divers heading for the Thistlegorm, Careless Reef, or any destination where the good stuff sits deep.
Why take it in Hurghada
Deep training here does not mean staring at a rope in green water. Your training dives happen on genuinely deep, genuinely beautiful Red Sea sites: walls and pinnacles where 30 meters looks like 30 meters because the visibility allows it. Warm water means you stay comfortable and clear-headed while you work through skills. And the depth rating has an immediate purpose in Hurghada, because the region's signature dives, from the deeper wrecks of Abu Nuhas to the engine room depths of the Thistlegorm, all reward a diver trained beyond 18 meters.
What you learn
The theory focuses on what actually changes when you go deep: your air goes faster, your no-decompression time shrinks dramatically, colors disappear, and gas narcosis quietly dulls your thinking. You learn to plan deep dives conservatively, manage your gas with proper reserves, use a dive computer intelligently at depth, understand decompression sickness risk factors, and know why a safety stop is non-negotiable. You also plan for contingencies: what happens if you overstay, and how emergency oxygen and backup air sources work.
Practical training
You complete four progressive deep dives over two days, each one deeper and more demanding than the last, down to a maximum of 40 meters. Along the way you compare your depth gauges and computers, watch colors shift and vanish, and run a timed task at depth against the same task at the surface, which is a humbling and unforgettable demonstration of narcosis. You practice descents and ascents on a reference, manage your gas to planned turn pressures, and make proper safety stops with a hang tank staged as backup. Buoyancy control gets sharper on every dive, because at depth there is no faking it.
Your certification
You finish as a PADI Deep Diver, certified to the full recreational limit of 40 meters. That opens the deeper Red Sea classics with a proper safety foundation and makes you a more capable buddy on any advanced trip. Pair it with Enriched Air Nitrox to stretch your no-decompression time, or with the Wreck Diver specialty, and the deep Red Sea genuinely becomes your playground.
