PADI Open Water Course in Hurghada: What to Actually Expect

The Open Water Diver course is your diving license for life, and Hurghada is genuinely one of the best places in the world to earn it: warm, calm, clear water and reefs that start at five meters.

How the course is structured

Theory. Most guests do PADI eLearning at home before the holiday - it saves a full classroom day. If you prefer, we arrange classroom sessions here.

Confined water. Your first breaths underwater happen in shallow, pool-like conditions. Mask clearing, regulator recovery, buoyancy basics. Nothing moves to the sea until it feels easy here.

Four open water dives. Over two days, you take the skills to the reef, going progressively to 12 and then 18 meters. By dive four you are diving, not practicing.

How long and how much

Plan 3 to 4 days. With us the course is 380 EUR including certification fees, materials, full equipment, boat trips with lunch and Hurghada hotel pickup. The only common extra is the eLearning code if you choose that route.

What makes a good course

The difference between a great course and a factory course is group size and patience. Ask how many students one instructor takes (with us: small groups, and private one-on-one is available), and whether skills are repeated until comfortable rather than ticked off a list.

Common worries, honestly answered

• "I am not a strong swimmer." You need to be able to swim 200 meters at your own pace and float for 10 minutes. That is all.
• "I am scared of deep water." Depth is gradual and controlled. Most people find 18 meters feels no different from 5 once they trust their equipment.
• "Equalizing hurts." It should not. We teach you to equalize early and often, and we never pull anyone down a line.

After the course

Your certification is recognized worldwide and never expires. Most graduates do a few relaxed fun dives right after - the best thing you can do for your new skills.
